This article details the procedure for moving a Virtual Machine (VM) from a vApp network to a Virtual Data Center (vDC) network in Navisite Cloud Director® (NCD).
Note: This procedure requires that you know the exact name of the VM to be moved.
- Log into Navisite Cloud Director. The NCD Dashboard page appears.
- Click VMs beneath the "Views" heading in the navigation pane at the left side of the page. The VMs page appears, displaying a list of available VMs.
- In the list, locate the name of the VM to be moved, and note the vApp name listed in the "vApp" column.
- In the "Name" column, click the VM name. The VM detail page appears.
- Verify that the VM is powered off. If necessary, shut down the VM by selecting "Shutdown" from the Power Off (Stop) drop-down menu at the top of the VM detail page.
- Click vApps in the navigation pane at the left side of the page. The vApps page appears, displaying a list of configured vApps.
- In the vApps page list, locate and click the name of the vApp containing the VM to be moved, as noted in Step 3. The vApp detail page appears.
- Click Networks in the "Children" section to display a list of configured networks for the vApp.
- Click the Link vDC Network drop-down, and select the name of the vDC network to which you are moving the VM.
- In the vApp diagram, click the image for the VM to be moved to reveal the VM detail pop-up window.
- Click the VM name in the VM detail pop-up window. The VM detail page appears.
- Click Network Interfaces in the "Hardware" section to display a list of network interface controllers (NICs) on the VM.
- Click the "gear" icon to the left of the name of the network interface to be changed. The Edit Network Interface page appears.
- Click the Network drop-down and select the name of the vDC network to which the VM is being moved.
- Click Edit Network Interface to perform the operation, or Cancel to abandon your changes.
- Click Network Overview beneath the "Views" heading in the navigation pane at the left side of the page. The Network Overview diagram is displayed.
- Examine the Network Overview diagram to confirm that the procedure is successful. The VM should be displayed with a direct connection to the selected vDC network, rather than to a vApp network.
Reminder: Your VM is in a powered off state as a result of this procedure. Return to the VM detail page to power it on as necessary.
Removing the Unused vApp Network
After moving a VM from a vApp network to a Virtual Data Center (vDC) network, the vApp may contain an unused vApp network connection. To delete this connection:
- Click vApps in the navigation pane at the left side of the NCD Dashboard page. The vApps page appears, displaying a list of configured vApps.
- In the vApps page list, locate and click the name of the appropriate vApp. The vApp detail page appears.
- Click Networks in the "Children" section to display a list of configured networks for
the vApp.
- Click Delete to the right of the network connection to be removed (the connection from which the VM was moved).
Note: If the vApp network has other connected VMs, it cannot be deleted. In this case, the Delete button is grayed-out.
