NCD – About Storage Policies
A storage policy is a method of identifying the appropriate storage resource upon which to deploy virtual resources. A storage policy is defined based on the qualities of the underlying storage resource. Storage policies capture storage characteristics required by virtual machine (VM) files and virtual disks in order to run applications within the VM.
Navisite Cloud Director provides two profiles for storage policies: "Standard" and "High." Storage limits for each of these profiles are defined when a vDatacenter (vDC) is configured.
VM storage policies are specified when creating a new VM, and can be updated as necessary.
Note: VMs with multiple defined disks may employ a combination of "Standard" and "High" storage policies. See Editing VM Properties for details on specifying storage policies on a per-disk basis.
The "High" storage policy indicates high-speed, low latency SSD-based storage.
VMs that are configured with the "High" storage policy are tagged with the "High Performance Storage" feature tag and can be located using the NCD search function. Performing a search for tag:High Performance Storage results in a list of VMs and vApps that include high speed storage policies. Click any listed VM or vApp in the search results to navigate to the corresponding detail page.
Click a VM's "High Performance Storage" feature tag to navigate to the VM's "Disks" section at the VM detail page.
Click a vApp's "High Performance Storage" feature tag to navigate to the vApp diagram, indicating VMs using the "High" storage policy.
