NCD – How do I clone a vApp?

Click the Copy button from a vApp's detail page.

The “Copy vApp” form appears, which requires a vApp Name; the name cannot be blank and cannot be the same as that of another vApp in the organization. The form also requires selection of a vDataCenter and VM Storage Policy (Standard or High-speed, low latency, SSD-based)

You can specify Backup per VM:

  • Initial -- Checkbox; sets VM to be local-backup-enabled upon initial creation.
  • Offsite -- Checkbox, enabled if "Initial Backup" is checked.  Sets VM to be remote-backup-enabled upon initial creation.

If the vApp includes Windows servers, you may check the Change SID box to cause VMware Tools to generate new, unique SIDs (Security Identifiers) for the VMs. An SID uniquely identifies user, group, and computer accounts in Windows. In order to successfully join a domain, VMs require unique SIDs.

For Windows VMs you may specify Antivirus per VM to enable AV service on the VMs.  The Security Profile selection list is displayed populated by default with a profile value recommended for the VM.  The value selected as Security Profile is mapped to the Trend Micro portal's "Policy" field for the VM's AV service.

Once you click the Copy vApp button to submit the vApp copy, during the vApp's creation the system displays the vApp's detail page.  From the "Task History" section you can monitor the progress and completion of the vApp's creation.
