NCD – What is a vApp Template?

A vApp template is an image of a vApp which contains one or more VM images and may contain one or more vApp networks.

Use the left navigation pane's Assets / Templates option to access available vApp templates for deployment. To deploy a vApp template click the Deploy button from vApp template detail page. The Add vApp dialog allows vApp customization at the time of vApp creation or deferred to a later time.

If the deployed vApp template includes networking configuration, the Add vApp dialog prompts you:

"The template includes Firewall and/or NAT configuration for one or more vApp networks. Would you like to attempt to apply these rules?"

To examine a summary overlay of a vApp's networking configuration, froma vApp template detail page click the View link in the "Components/Networks" section.

If you click Yes to the networking rules prompt, the system applies the templatized networking settings on a best effort basis to the newly created vApp. To the extent the application is successful, the new vApp includes right from the outset the same networking configuration as was stored in the vApp template. Any templatized networking configuration that the system is unable to create automatically in background is simply omitted from the new vApp.
