NCD – Searching for Items in Navisite Cloud Director

Navisite Cloud Director's search function allows you to quickly find the following items in your environment, and compile a list of search results:

  • Networks

  • vDataCenters (vDCs)

  • vApps

  • VMs

  • IP Addresses

  • Catalog Items

  • Physical Assets
To perform a search, click the Magnifying Glass search icon at the upper right of any page in Navisite Cloud Director.

To search for objects directly (according to name, hostname, operating system, or IP address, for example), simply enter it into the search field. The search function displays potential matches in real time as you type.


When you search by IP address, networks that include the IP are considered matches, and the search results include the range of the network's IP addresses.


As you type, the upper pane of the search utility provides search filter suggestions. Click any of these to refine your search according to the suggested filter. When you use the filter suggestions, note that the search text is altered to include your selected search operator syntax (e.g., "tag:" or "type:"). Search operator syntax can also be entered directly into the search field, if desired.

The lower pane of the search utility lists system objects that conform to your search terms. The result list includes the object name and type, and clicking a result navigates you directly to that object's Detail page.

The search utility applies your search terms to the following system objects:
  • vApp

  • VM

  • vDC Network

  • vApp Network

  • vDC

  • Physical asset

  • Template
The search utility applies your search terms to the following system object properties:
  • Name

  • Hostname (physical asset, VM)

  • OS (VM)

  • shortname (physical asset)

  • IP (VM, physical asset)
