NCD – How do I create a vDC network?

From the "Networks" section of a vDataCenter detail page, click the Create vDC Network button. The “Create vDC Network” form appears, which requires a name, gateway address, and Connection.

The name cannot be blank and cannot be the same as another vDC network in the same data center.

Selecting None for a Connection will create the network without a higher level network connection -- also called an isolated network.

Note: An isolated vDC network provides no connectivity outside of the vDC. It only connects its own vApps (and their VMs) together. Refer to Identifying Isolated Networks for more information.

Once you click to submit the new vDC network, during the vDC network's creation the system displays the vDC network's detail page.  From the "Task History" section you can monitor the progress and completion of the vDC network's creation.

When you create a new vDC network, primary and secondary DNS are set to use Google's DNS servers by default (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4).  You can change the DNS servers through the "Network Config" section of the vDC network's detail page.

Upon your creation of a vDC network, the system automatically adds an SNAT rule so that VMs on the network can access the Internet.  If you subsequently delete the vDC network, the system also removes the SNAT rule that it had automatically created for the network.
